Sri Lanka Ruddy Mongoose (Herpestes smithii zeylanicus)

Tamil: Keerie or Seng-Keerie

Description: This mongoose is more of a rufous brown than the brown mongoose, and tip of its tails black. The adult male is larger than the female having an overall length of about 81 cms.

Distribution: Found in most districts of the low lands to mid-hills in the dry and wet zones.

Breeding:
Although nothing definite is known, this mongoose probably has 2 or 3 young in a hole in a termite hill or some other hidden recess.
